The current housing crisis demands a reset in how we use public policy to achieve housing affordability.”

Housing Reset is an ad hoc group of prominent Metro Vancouver-based urbanists, urban planners, architects, developers, and academics with decades of experience in housing policy, urban planning, architecture, urban design, and real estate development.  Following misguided and failed attempts to address this country’s housing crisis, this group has joined together to broaden the search for enduring housing solutions.

While their primary focus is on Vancouver, the group believes their ideas are applicable to cities across Canada which are also struggling with housing issues, which are largely affordability issues. Their ideas are relevant for all three levels of government.

The current market correction presents an opportunity—not a threat. Governments should not bail out speculative development models. Instead use this moment to invest in non-market housing, preserve existing affordability and ensure that public subsidies serve long-term public outcomes
